Standardized Testing Experience

 Standardized Testing Experience

Standardized testing was very big when I was in school. I remember being in grades 3rd-5th and every school year we would have to take a full week to do the state testing. I personally have never been a good test taker. I always had wonderful grades and graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA but when it came to testing, I would always psych myself out. I have also always been an over-thinker, so I think that also hindered my test taking skills. For regular tests we had in class that I could study for, I did pretty well, but if it was a standardized test that I couldn't be completely prepared for I didn't always do well. The older I got, the better I got with testing. Sometimes I still have some anxiety when taking tests, but I always try my best and know that's all I can do. I have always loved school, so I knew it was just part of the process.

During the pandemic, I was in my second year at the community college and I remember everything shutting down. I always took class in the classroom and never online, because I liked being in the classroom face-to-face for instructional time. I had never been just wonderful at online classes, but quickly learned that I had no other option. I had to attend my very first math class online and was so worried I would fail because math was never my strong suite. However, I excelled in the class and and surprised myself. I knew then that I was capable of more than what I gave myself credit for.
